Up for sale is an OUTSTANDING vintage still life oil painting on canvas depicting a set of antique books, two tobacco pipes (one which is carved meerschaum) and two pieces of beautiful painted porcelain. This original composition is signed by "S. Ellis" in the lower left corner and titled and dated on the reverse "In His Solitude 1968". This painting has a wonderful composition and depiction of goods. The center porcelain biscuit jar is hand painted and shows three or four clipper ships out on the ocean. Nicely resting in a gold wood frame that measures 20 x 16 inches the canvas measures 12 x 16 inches. The condition is excellent with their being no noticeable damage to the painting other than a slight impression along the right side. The painting is just overall very cool, much more interesting than your regular still life's.
