Up for sale is a wonderful 19th-century oil painting depicting an English coastal scene with a thatched roof house to the left and a couple of figures working on a fishing net to the right. A small sailboat is seen off the coast with more just barely visible in the far distance. Executed in oil on canvas this painting measures 12 x 18 inches and is housed in a gorgeous contemporary wood frame measuring 23 x 29 inches. The painting is illegibly signed in the lower-left corner and dated 1883 in very nice condition the work is excellent with expected craquelure. The backside of the canvas is stamped by the art supplier George Rowney & Co. who manufactured and retailed the canvas. The quality and overall execution of the work is good showing a nice depiction of what daily life looked like for this couple with clothes hanging on lines drying in the sea air and a fence appearing to be made from random bits of driftwood. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine oil painting but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
