Henry Farrer was a self taught artist born in London in 1844 and emigrated to America in 1863. He then opened up his own studio in New York and joined the Society for the Advancement of Truth in Art which was short lived and built on Pre-Raphaelite tradition. He then transitioned into more of a tonalist style painter which is what he is now best remembered for in his etchings and watercolors. Henry was one of the original founders of the New York Etching Club in 1873 whose goal was to show how creative of a medium etching was and not just a reproductive one.

This is a beautiful little landscape etching clearly showing his tonalist stye Henry is most remembered for. This was originally bound in a book and has three spots where staples had held it into the binding. The book was American Art Collections written by William Montgomery in 1889 and included is its cover page. This etching has about a 2 inch tear on the bottom center of the margin which would easily be covered by matting when framed. This etching comes unframed and may have slight imperfections around the border on the margins due to not being framed.
