Up for sale is an exceptionally rare photograph by Nicholas Orzio titled “Love Song”. This sweet image shows a man sittings against a brick wall playing a flute while a small girl listens at his side. This tender and delicate image is what Orzio most enjoyed capturing, portraits of the Japanese in their everyday life, evoking great emotion. Nicholas Orzio had a fascinating role in 20th century. WWII, art as he was ordered by the U.S. Army to photograph and document Occupied Japan from 1948-1949. With the purpose of capturing the WWII recovery and rebuild in Japan, he captured many phenomenal images such as this. Signed in silver ink low right, the work is dated 1948, presumably printed later, measuring 23.5 x 19.5 inches while its matting measures 32 x 28 inches. The work is unframed but mounted and matted, ready to be placed into a frame. The condition of this photograph is fine. I can not stress the rarity of Orzio’s photographs as I have been unable to locate any other examples for sale or have sold. This came from a Central Florida collection who apparently had a personal relationship with the photographer before his passing in 2016. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this beautiful Nicholas Orzio photograph of Occupied Japan but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
