Up for sale is a beautiful old master 1st state engraving entitled “Esther Before Ahasuerus” by the accomplished Dutch print maker / painter Lucas Van Leyden. This print measures approximately 8 3/4 x 10 5/8 inches with its margins trimmed while it sits in a vintage frame measuring 14 x 16.75 inches. The print is mounted from verso with tape which has caused visible toning primarily visible top left and lower left corner. This print shows 500 year age with tears around the edges of the print, small creases, moderate toning / soiling etc. The print sits under “non glare" glass" which obscures detail in the photos and has not been inspected outside of the frame. I am particularly fond of this busy composition with every figure having different facial expressions and body posture. In addition, I enjoy the cityscape Leyden created top center just barely visible over the wall. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this 16th century engraving but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
