Up for sale is a masterpiece of the exceptionally rare and historical works from the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Attributed / in the style of Zhang Lin (1948), this large painting depicts a cooperative medical station during a time of harvest full of smiling men, women and children. The wonderfully colorful composition shows lush greenery decorated with fruits, vegetables and flowers with many collecting / carrying full baskets and sorting / cleaning as seen in the window upper right. Executed in gouache on paper, this large composition measures 46 x 27 inches while its frame measures 56 x 37 inches. Part of the Huxian Peasant Painting Group, very few examples from this art movement still exist today especially of this size and overall quality. The overall detail is exceptionally fine of which I find great enjoyment in each of the figures faces with each showing great attention and care from the painter. The “Great Harvest Team - Cooperative Medical Station” is written in white along the walls column in the middle while the medical building at the top of the painting shows the text “Socialism is good in every way”, “Peoples Commune Vaccination” and “Family Planning is Good” with a woman educating using charts displayed in the window. The condition of the painting shows wrinkling, creases and waviness along with minimal surface imperfections while its frame shows some minimal blemishes.
