Up for sale is a phenomenally rare complete set of 8 woodblock prints by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) entitled “Toto Yukimi Hakkei” (8 Snow Scenes of the Eastern Metropolis). This 1948 edition of prints includes its original portfolio, titles sheets and even cardboard packing materials with the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These never displayed woodblocks have retained their superfine original color and condition all having been remained in their individual sleeves. While this is considered Hiroshige’s most strange body of works with the fascinating posthumous print history the set is incredibly beautiful and rare to find in complete never displayed condition such as this. The prints show light even toning to sheets. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine set of Hiroshige woodblocks but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
