Up for sale is an exceptional oil painting by the turn of the century, Tennessee born painter, William Washington Girard. This fine landscape is what he is best known and most appreciated for, a romantic landscape depicting a small cabin located in the Nashville, Tennessee area. He painted around Sycamore Creek and Browns Creek in the Nashville area of which this landscape likely shows with low rolling mountains on the horizon and thick heavy vegetation in the foreground. A small bit of water is shown in the foreground while a dirt path leads around heading towards the home and through the small opening of the trees at the works center. Signed in the low left corner “Washington Girard” this painting is executed in oil on artist board measuring 12 x 16 inches while its later white wood frame measures 15.5 x 19.5 inches making this work ready to be hung and enjoyed! The painting shows wear including an old repair (in painting) above the home, craquelure, loss top left corner, minimal surface abrasions / imperfections and possible light blemishes to its frame, more than a worthy candidate of conservation. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aestethic beauty of this extremely scarce painting by Tennessee painter Washington Girard but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
