Up for sale is a fantastic original watercolor illustration by the talented Harrison Fisher depicting a beautiful brunette holding a tea cup and saucer. This early 20th century illustration was most likely commercially used with a near identical example used for a post card which was entitled “Tea Time”. Harrison Fisher is well known for his beautifully painted girls and this work is no exception showing a striking blue eyed sitter staring directly at the viewer. With bright red lips and tinted rosy cheeks the soft expression on her face shows a sense of calmness and satisfaction most likely from the tea which she is drinking. The warm colors of her face dance in wonderful contrast to the cool cup, saucer and ring which share the same blue color. Her delicate fingers hold up the plate and cup with ease and elegance which runs through the entire work. I particularly like the gold ring on her pinky finger which is extended.

The painting is executed in watercolor on paper measuring 12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches while the mostly likely original wood frame measures 18 1/4 x 15 1/4 inches. Signed in the low center “Harrison Fisher” the painting is then signed “J.E. Dolive” which either was the sitter or the name of a friend the painting was gifted too which is not uncommon to see on his works. The condition of the painting shows some expected toning, discoloration and minor spots of foxing mostly around the edge of the oval cut matting. The frame also shows some missing gesso. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this rare Harrison Fisher illustration painting but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
