Up for sale is an exceptionally rare bronze relief sculpture by Sir William Reid Dick depicting a portrait of King George VI. Dating from 1952, this is one of two recorded memorial reliefs executed for the king as commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II, both of which are recorded in Dennis Wardleworth’s 2013 publication, “William Reid Dick, Sculptor”. Measuring 33.75 x 23.5 inches, the condition shows decades of natural wear from weather attesting to being installed outside like other known examples. The only other examples of this relief I was able to locate are at Anomabo Castle, Fort William, Ghana placed by Queen Elizabeth II in 1954 while the other hangs at Lilleshall Hall National Sports Center, England. This is an exceptional bronze relief done by Sir William Reid Dick as commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate and remember the life of her father. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this portrait of King George VI but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
