Black Marble Sculpture

Provenance: ca 1954, formerly in the Chrysler Museum collection #85173, de-accessioned in 1991
Up for sale is an exceptionally beautiful and rare black marble sculpture by the talented 20th century female sculptor Lily Ente. Born in what was the Russian Empire, now Ukraine, Lily was able to maker her way to the United States where she primarily worked between New York City and Woodstock. This tremendous example is worked in the difficult medium of Italian black marble and shows her transition into modern / abstract compositions of which are the most beautiful from her oeuvre. Retaining the lovely provenance of formerly being held in the Chrysler Museum collection (#85173), it was de-accessioned in 1991 and purchased from New York estate. The sculpture measures 11.75 inches tall, 13.75 inches wide and roughly 5.25 inches deep. The shape, lines and contour of this rare modernist portrait of this make this an absolutely gem from Ente, easily one of the finest works I have ever seen available by the artist. The condition of this marble shows scuffs and scratches, easily polished by a conservator, also appears to have been mounted / base visible on its underside. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this modernist black marble sculpture by Lily Ente but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
