Felix Buhot was born in Normandy France in 1847 and was one the most renowned printmakers, and illustrators up to his death in 1898. He lived a must unfortunate and sad life plagued by deaths and misfortune but in his short lifetime became a world renown artist. He was not discovered by the American art market until Frederick Keppel, one of Americas most renowned European print dealers, befriended Buhot and gave him his first exhibition in New York in 1888. Frederick Keppel was so enamored by Buhot's work that he stated "Felix will be as historical, if not surpass, Albrecth Durer in terms of print innovation." which clearly has not happened but is a fun fact.

This artist proof etching (4th state) of "Westminster Palace" is a historical piece and Felix Buhot's most successful and complex composition ever created. It is not only stamped with his famous red owl insignia but also signed with his full name along the bottom center. The etching is in wonderful condition with slight toning and has been glued to the artist board it sits on. Their are no tears, rips, etc...

On the reverse is the original gallery label and what makes this piece even more desirable is that it came from Frederick Keppel's New York gallery! The label reads "No. 6120. House of Parliament drawn and etched by Felix Buhot artist proof signed.". This is an incredibly historic and sought after print being an artist proof with the original label and stated provenance. The quality of the impression is warm and crisp which can be seen in the images provided. This has just been professionally framed and matted with all archival materials and museum quality glass.

The frame measures approximately 25 3/4 x 22 3/4 inches and complements the work exceeding well. The print has its full margins which measures 17 5/8 x 13 3/4inches. The images provided accurately depict the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine original etching but if you should have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
