Up for sale is an outstanding original illustration painting by the talented American illustrator Carl Schirmer entitled "Picnic at Cameron Station" in Alexandria, Virginia. Executed in ink and gouache this painting reminds me of the fabulously busy compositions of Martin Handford who illustrated the Where's Waldo series. Filled with countless individuals participating in different activities this is full of fun hidden little gems which you will discover something new every time you gaze upon it. From children hilariously playing doctor in the foreground to adults eating, kissing laughing and dancing; this work requires some serious time to take it all in to see all the minor details like the "lost" hand grenade in the low left corner under the table! Signed in the lower left corner "C. Schirmer" the backside of the work has writing by the artists indicating its title and personal address at the time along with an original business card. Resting in its original green frame measuring 25 1/4 x 31 1/8 inches the painting on paper measures 14 3/4 x 19 1/2 inches. The condition of the painting is excellent with the frame just showing scuffs and light wear. The glass has been removed so the painting can be safely shipped without fear of being damaged while in transit. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine illustration painting by Schirmer but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
