Up for sale is a fine collection of extremely rare antique Magic Lantern hand painted glass slides from the 1800's depicting the Abyssinian Campaign of 1867-1868 when Great Britain sent 16,000 men to Ethiopia lead by Sir Robert Napier. Containing a total of 10 cedar wood slides they are in excellent condition due to the fact they have remained in their original wood box for the last 150 years! Each slide in its entirety measures 7 x 4.5 inches while the hand painted glass measures 3.25 inches in diameter. All 10 slides have a fine old handwriting on their tops titling each scene and provided is a photograph of all slides so you can clearly see each scene. Made by the London Company "Baker Optician" each side has a blind stamp in its wood as seen in the last image provided. All slides are in good overall condition with one having a crack through its wood on its left side as seen in the 3rd image provided. These are extremely old and show minor appropriate signs of their age. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this fine set of slides but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
