Up for sale is a rather beautiful turn of the century portrait by the accomplished American portraitist C. Bernard Pereira. This portrait stunningly portrays an older female figure with excellent facial features and soft skin looking down toward her faithful pekingese companion of whom both are sitting on a stone bench outdoors. Executed in pastel on canvas it appears some restoration work has occurred for the best with it being relined and pulled over a new stretcher. The quality and aesthetic beauty screams from this work as Pereira so perfectly captures the beauty of the sitter in a realistic and serene fashion. Painted in soft tones and using nature to naturally frame the two subjects in this work the woman and dog pop off the mostly green background. The condition is excellent and the work still rests in what believed to be its original art nouveau frame which is killer! The glass was removed from the frame so when the work is shipped the fear of glass breaking and destroying the picture is absent. That being said, you will need to replace the glass once the painting is received so the pastel does not get damaged from direct contact. The painting is signed in the very most lower right corner and the partially legible date follows appearing to read 1900. Pereira has works that rest on many collections like that of the National Portrait Gallery and Yale University. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and esthetic beauty of this pastel but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
