Frederick A. Macneal has very little known information available even though theirs a decent auction archive of his works. Macneal was a 19th century artist enthusiast for landscapes that usually depicted coastal areas and his preferred medium was watercolor. This watercolor is a perfect example of Macneals works and is still resting in its original period gild wood frame.

The watercolor has been mounted to the board which backs it and has had some fading and foxing which is visible in the photographs. The composition is very calm and traditional of a late hudson river school landscape overlooking the river with mountains in the distant right background. Signed in the lower right hand corner "Frederick A. Macneal" and measuring approximately 10 x 14 3/4 inches this is a beautiful piece. The frame measures 18 x 23 1/2 inches and does have missing pieces/cracking which is typical for these gilt wood frames.
